For seniors who would welcome more company.

A loved one may manage many daily tasks but spend long stretches of the day alone. Companionship is worth exploring when your family wants more conversation, shared interests, or company during familiar routines. Start with what your loved one enjoys and when another person’s presence would be most welcome.

What support can include.

Conversation & shared interests

Time for conversation, stories, and entertainment. Bring up the subjects, hobbies, and familiar activities your loved one enjoys.

Company around daily routines

Companionship can be considered alongside meals and snacks, light housekeeping, shopping, and errands. Describe the practical help you need as well as the company.

Respect for personal beliefs

A Care Plus does not force people to accept its religious beliefs. Your loved one’s preferences and beliefs belong in the conversation about their care.

A good day starts with familiar details.

For example, an afternoon could feel less quiet with someone to talk to over a snack or share a favorite story. Describe those ordinary moments when you ask about companionship.

If bathing, dressing, toileting, or mobility also needs attention, mention those tasks separately. Companionship and hands-on personal care address different needs; use your consultation to ask which combination of support fits your loved one.

Find company your loved one will enjoy.

1. Start with shared interests

Share the interests your loved one enjoys: conversation, favorite stories, music or other familiar pastimes. Their preferences give a companion a thoughtful place to start.

2. Choose meaningful moments

Identify the quieter parts of the day when company would be welcome. Discuss how visits could fit around meals, existing activities and time with friends or relatives.

3. Discuss consistency

Ask about caregiver matching and continuity, and explain what helps your loved one feel at ease with someone new. Confirm the companionship activities and visit schedule together.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Practical answers for your next step.

How is companionship different from personal care?

Companionship focuses on company, conversation, and shared everyday moments. Personal care addresses tasks such as bathing, dressing, and toileting. Describe both social and practical needs when discussing support.

Can companionship include meals or errands?

Meals and snacks, light housekeeping, shopping, and errands are among our listed services. Ask which tasks can be included in the arrangement available for your loved one.

Is religious participation required?

No. Our About page explains that we do not force people to accept our religious beliefs. Share your loved one’s preferences when discussing care.

How much does care cost, and are there minimum hours?

The right questions depend on the tasks and schedule you need covered. Before agreeing to care, request the rate, any minimum hours, payment arrangements, and any additional charges. Confirm the total for your proposed schedule.

Can we request a consistent caregiver?

Explain that continuity matters to your family. Ask how caregivers are matched, whether the same person can cover your schedule, and what happens if that person is unavailable. Confirm the arrangement before care begins.

How will our family stay informed?

Bring up who should receive updates, how you prefer to be contacted, and what changes you want reported. Ask how communication and concerns will be handled for the arrangement you are considering.

Talk about your loved one’s care.

A 30-minute conversation is a place to explain what has changed, ask your questions, and explore the support available.
